I'd like to nominate Kathy Skeen as mohetr of the year. She is superwoman in my mind!!! Kathy is not only a fabulous mohetr to 4 children (all under the age of 7, 2 sets of twins) but day in and night out she takes care of the soon to be mohetrs and fathers of the NEPA region. She is a labor and delivery nurse at Moses Taylor Hospital and this is where I first met Kathy. I was a new nurse, right of out of school, when I first came to the labor and delivery unit. It was Kathy who greeted me in the hall as she was coming off of night shift and I was entering on day shift. Her smile and presence in a room stops you dead in your tracks. Her compassion, and love for everyone around her, exudes from her at every moment. Kathy precepted me for a few weeks during my orientation on night shift. It was her friendship that kept me on night shift and at Moses Taylor. She fore goes sleep most days because she works at night and takes care of her children during the day. And as much as any normal person would complain, this woman has never complained, not even once. We work in a unit that is happy 98% of the time, but when it is not so happy, it is those times that you truly appreciate the children you do have, and the healthy children you have. Kathy's one son was born with a congenital heart defect and when he was born, she was no longer the nurse , she was a concerned and worried first time mohetr. This is what she is able to bring to her patients. She brings patience, kindness, love, understanding, and a smile throughout it all to her patients and their families. She never makes promises she can't keep, but she always promises to do everything in her power to make this a memorable, happy, and safe birthing experience for these families. She is a woman who has meant so much to me, and every family she has touched. She is more than my words could ever do her justice. I love her more than she'll know!
Un grande amore...
